On the night of January 23, 2013, during a combat operation in Afghanistan against Taliban terrorists, Major Krzysztof Wozniak of the GROM Military Unit was seriously wounded and died as a result of his wounds.
Major Krzysztof Wozniak began his service in the army in 1996 as a cadet at the T. Kosciuszko Military Academy in Wroclaw. After graduating from Officer Candidate School in 2000, he was assigned as a platoon commander in the 1st Armored Brigade in Warsaw-Wesoła. Since July 2002, he participated in PKW KFOR Kosovo. In 2005, he was transferred on duty to the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade in Świętoszów. In 2007, after passing the selection course, he was appointed to a position in JW 2305 GROM.
Serving in the JWG
While serving in Unit 2305, he completed a course in land and naval anti-terrorist operations in 2008. Subsequently, he began serving in the combat structures of the Unit. He participated in overseas missions in ISAF SOF structures in 2009 - 5th shift Ghazni as Deputy Commander of the Assault Group, and then in ISAF SOF 9th shift Ghazni in 2011 as Commander of the Assault Section. Since September 8, 2012, he participated in the 12th shift of PKW Afghanistan as Assault Section Commander. During the ISAF mission, he participated in numerous combat operations against Taliban terrorist group fighters and leaders, during which there was direct contact with the enemy.

On January 23, 2013, while conducting an operation codenamed GURG in Ghazni, Afghanistan, against Taliban terrorists, he was seriously wounded and died as a result of his wounds.
He was buried on January 26, 2013 at the Zielonka cemetery.
